to think that by the time the baby arrives, their room is full of chemical fumes from the new paints, carpets and furniture we have purchased.
These fumes are bad enough for adults to breathe, but think about how they may affect someone as small as your baby. Babies are much more susceptible to chemicals not only
because of their size but also because, on a pound for pound basis, they breathe more air than adults, they are rapidly growing and developing so any chemicals that
interfere with that process will affect them to a greater extent and babies spend more time on the floor where chemicals which are heavier than air will settle.
Why Organic Isn't Just For Food
Perhaps you are thinking that products with harmful chemicals would not be allowed on the market, particularly products made for babies. As sensible as this would be, the fact is that traditional nursery products, do contain chemicals found to cause health problems in animal studies. Traditional crib mattresses, for example, are sprayed with fire retardants called poly brominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) that were found to impair brain development in animals.
Could this be related to the skyrocketing incidence of autism in our country?
